Principal's Message
Greetings Wildcat Family,
Welcome to the current school year! For those of you who are returning to Chisholm, welcome back. For those of you who are new to our school, we are excited to have you join our Wildcat Family.
This year, we will have the largest population of students in our school's history. Although we are increasing in size, we are still considered to be a smaller elementary school in Volusia County by serving an average of 460 students. Our current Kindergarten through 5th Grade academic programs include general education, exceptional student education (mild varying exceptionalities, autism spectrum disorder, and emotional behavioral disability), and the gifted program.
Last year, we implemented a schoolwide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program and will be enhancing the program this year. PBIS establishes a social culture and the behavioral supports needed to improve social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes for all students. Highlights of our PBIS program include: PAWSitive Referrals which are given to students who demonstrate one or more of our core guiding principles, PAW Points which are awarded to individual classes for demonstrating positive behavior; and the Wildcat 200 Club.
As we return to what we like to consider a more "normal" school year, we welcome individuals who would like to volunteer or mentor students on our campus. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or mentor, please contact the school to learn more about these supportive opportunities.
Safety and security of all individuals on our campus is my number one priority. As we continue through the COVID-19 pandemic, we have established protocols that we will follow. To view the protocols and other COVID related information, please visit the Volusia County Schools' district website under the COVID Information tab.
Please be sure to thoroughly review the items in your child's take-home folder to acquaint yourself with various announcements and required paperwork for the start of the school year.
I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to support your child through his or her next educational chapter and look forward to another successful school year here in Wildcat Country!
Sincerely,
Melissa Marple
Principal
